Hey, friend 👋! I’m SO thrilled you found your way to Macy Sees The World—an album of short fiction and essays inspired by my travels. It's a newsletter for readers who want to learn about culture and history while being entertained by the adventures of fictional characters.
How does Fiction + Travel work?
So, you might be wondering, “Why mesh travel and fiction together? Why not keep them on separate shelves like they do at Barnes and Noble?”
Simple. I want this newsletter to offer you an opportunity to try something different, an opportunity that is both invaluable yet surprisingly rare: connecting with a place—be it a city, a region, or even a country—through the lives of fictional characters written by someone who is currently exploring that place.
This could include fiction that dramatizes a local legend, a series of short stories about a historical site, or stories that investigate questions such as “what if modern-day New York was (fill in the blank)”. Truly, the possibilities are endless.
Why subscribe?
What makes my stories different from ones you might read in a fiction zine is that they’re not just based on a 30-minute Google search. They’re based on lived experiences.
Weaving through a city, tasting its delicacies, feeling its soil beneath your soles, connecting with locals over a drink…authentic experiences like these color every layer of my writing, allowing me to craft stories that
are well-researched and informed by lived experiences
feed your soul as much as they entertain
help you explore culture and history through fiction
Who should subscribe?
Whether you’re a travel junkie, an armchair explorer, or someone who’s never ventured outside their state, you are welcome here. The only things you need to enjoy this newsletter are a love for knowledge and a love for stories.
While I can’t promise Macy Sees The World is everyone’s cup of tea, I do promise to write genuinely and to write with heart. This is the only type of writing I’m capable of creating; this is the only type of writing you deserve.
Some final housekeeping…
Newsletters are published once a week
